Welcomes
Bethany Averie
Today Bethany has joined us to share a bit of background on the hero and heroine in her Immortal Dreams Trilogy. Take it away Bethany:
Thank you.
Since I’ve done a lot of talking about how Immortal Dreams Book One Divine Love came about, I thought I’d talk about the characters themselves.
I never consciously model my characters after anyone I know. If a bit of someone’s personality seeps into a character, it’s completely by chance, not design. The funny thing I realized with Laney Alberts (the heroine) was that she was a mix between myself and my deceased friend, Sarah. Sarah knew about Divine Love before she died (I read part of an early draft to her over the phone) and we laughed about how Laney seemed to be a loose mish-mash of the two of us. Laney has my quips and Sarah’s love of acting. It was fun creating her, and over the course of the Trilogy (I’m currently working on Book Three) she grows and develops into a confident, talented character. A real heroine.
Jason Magnus was a blast to write. He’s so “devil-may-care” (which is not me). He’s quick with a smart-aleck response and thinks he knows what he wants. It’s not until he meets Laney that he grows and develops into a true hero. Jason is a great character because despite being a smartass he’s got a big heart and when he genuinely cares about someone it brings out his best attributes.
Writing Laney and Jason’s journey over the course of 3 books has given me a lot of room to explore their personalities, give them space to grow, and come up with different ideas for each situation. You don’t know what you’re going to get at any given moment with the Immortal Dreams Trilogy, and I think that’s what makes the story fun.
Immortal Dreams Book One: Divine Love blurb:
Laney Alberts should be enjoying her senior year of high school. Instead, she’s mourning the death of her beloved father—her hero. Even after a year without him, she still feels directionless.
Things take a complete one-eighty when she literally walks into Jason Magnus, the hot, new guy at school. He’s different from anyone she has ever met, and intrigues her in ways she never guessed possible.
But, there’s more to Jason than Laney realizes. Before she knows what’s happening, she’s thrown into the world of Immortals. To prevent a goddess bent on world domination from destroying both the human and Immortal worlds, Laney and Jason must embrace the Fates’ destiny for them.
Human and Immortal collide in this, the first of the Immortal Dreams Trilogy.
