How about a glimpse at Sally’s husband Elliott and his books while you’re munching these awesome cookie bars?

For three thousand years a hatred burns. In seventeenth century France two souls incarnate, one born the child of a prosperous merchant, the other, determined to continue an incarnation begun long ago.

In ancient Egypt, there were two brothers, disciples of the pharaoh, Akhenaten. When the pharaoh died, the physician took the knowledge given and went to Greece to begin the mystery school. The general made a deal with the priests and became pharaoh. One remembers, one does not.

The year is 1671. René Gilbert’s destiny glints from the blade of a slashing rapier. The only way he can protect those he loves is to regain the power and knowledge of an ancient lifetime. From Bordeaux to Spain to Morocco, René is tested and with each turn of fate he gathers enemies and allies, slowly reclaiming the knowledge and power earned centuries ago. For three thousand years a secret sect has waited in Morocco.

After ages in darkness, Horemheb screams, “I am.” Using every dark art, he manages to maintain the life of the body he has bartered for. Only one life force in the world is powerful enough to allow him to remain within embodiment, perhaps forever. Determined to continue a reign of terror that once made the Nile run red, he grows stronger with each life taken.

Talks with

Janis Lane

Author of

Whispers of Danger and Love

Author Janis Lane talks with us today about her book, Whispers of Danger and Love, and what is special about the story. Here is Janis:

Whispers is a cozy mystery with adventure. What makes this story different and special to my heart is the voice I’ve given to Cheryl. With this character I’ve indulged my personal love of plants and gardening. Through her voice you’ll hear about Crocosmia, a beautiful perennial dear to hummingbirds, a moth (Spinx) that pretends to be a hummer, why one plant is commonly called 4 o’clock, why a Lisianthus makes a better cut flower, than a petunia, why container gardening is great for some folks and not for others, and other such jewels of information gardeners might find interesting. (Who is the brown-eyed plant killer beast?) For once I did no research. I indulged my love for plants to my hearts content and Cheryl totally agreed with me. I hint of this inclusion to readers of Cozies who might also be totally foolish about gardening, as am I.Whispers of Danger and Love_500x750

Cheryl Esterbrook is a landscape designer living in a cottage left to her by her grandmother. Her garden, of course, is a showpiece. Next door, an old acquaintance from her childhood moves into his grandmother’s home with boisterous companions enjoying the yard in a different way. Sparks fly with the possibility for a romance. Mystery and danger rear ugly heads. All is eventually settled to the satisfaction of all.

Peace in the neighborhood ended when hunky Detective David Larkin moved next door. Never mind he was Cheryl Esterbrook’s childhood heart throb, she wasn’t about to allow him to disrupt her quiet, orderly life style. Designing gardens was her work, but David didn’t hesitate to involve her in spying on a gangster and his live-in girlfriend. Cheryl should have listened when the man who grew up to be a serious policeman whispered across the hedge of imminent dangers in the days to come. Life takes a surprising turn when two people who loved each other as children transfer that affection to the adults they have now become.

“I was shocked when she left me the house, you know.” She guessed from the tone of his voice he was serious. He really meant it. Was this the Scot or the Irish piece he used to express his guilt?

“She used to talk about you all the time. She kept up with your doings over the years, although she didn’t care much for your lady friends.” Cheryl glanced at him from underneath her eyelashes.

His eyes twinkled but his face transformed into inscrutably bland nothingness. She snorted, and he flashed a broad grin. She struggled to maintain her composure albeit recognizing the memorial power of that smile. There was history between the two of them. For a moment, the years dropped away, and two naughty children sat together plotting their next wicked escapade.
