Never Give up on Love

by

Maggie Mundy

{NOTE: Donald read this in four straight hours and obviously found it engrossing. Called it a great read.}

About Maggie

I live in Adelaide, Australia with my husband, one cat, two dogs and a snake. I have a motorbike that I would like to ride more than I do and I love walking at the beach and listening to the waves. I’ve always loved reading all forms of fiction from high fantasy and paranormal to contemporary and decided the stories in my head needed to be written down. It was either that or start on medication. Unlike many, I didn’t know I wanted to be a writer until a few years back. I started off doing a degree in drama but soon realized my love was in writing, though there is a play lurking somewhere on my computer. My day job is as a nurse in the operating room. I believe romance can be fun to read and write, but it’s exciting to spice it up with the uncertainty that comes with suspense where the rules can be broken.

THE LEGEND OF THE SOUL MATE TREE:

I am old, I am ancient, my purpose is clear
To give those who are needy a treasure so dear.
They who come to my roots, touch my bark, stroke my leaves
Find the soul of their lives if they but believe.
When I call and you listen, your prize will be great
If your heart remains open and you don’t hesitate.
Do you yearn? Be you lonely? Is your time yet at hand?
Reach for me and I’ll give to you. I’m yours to command.
For your trust, for your faith, keep my secrets untold
And I’ll gift you forever, to have and to hold.

An ancient legend spanning eras, continents, and worlds. To some, it’s nothing more than a dream. To others, a pretty fairy tale handed down through the generations.

For those in critical need of their own happy ending, a gift.

BLURB

Sometimes you want to die, but it’s not meant to be. Vincent became a vampire in 1847. He fights to keep humans safe from rogue vampires, but can never find love. One thing makes him go on and not find a way to die. The Soul Mate Tree saved his life with its shade and showed him a woman in the future who would need his help and show him love. He could be more than the bloodsucker he had become.
In 2015, Adele is a vampire hunter by night and a photographer by day. She has never allowed love into her life as it would only complicate things. Then she meets Vincent, and the attraction is instant.
Vincent must try and convince Adele to love him while they both fight off rogue vampires?
How will she cope when she realizes the man she has fallen in love with, is what she has been trained to kill.

Book Trailer for The Soul Mate Tree:

Excerpt:

She clipped another stake onto her belt just in case. As she got closer, Adele saw a man at the base of the tree. She couldn’t make out his face with the way he angled his body away from her.
He groaned as if in pain as the lights around the tree intensified. It must be a power surge or something she supposed. Maybe the poor guy was being electrocuted. She tried to remember her first aid.
“Are you hurt?” She called out. The man didn’t react and then the branches came down and covered him. That was weird. It was like the tree was alive or something. She didn’t want to leave someone hurt and in need of help and moved the branches aside. The guy was gone. She really was losing the plot. Maybe she had imagined him. As she moved away from the tree, she heard a whisper.
“Trust me, Adele. He will find you when you need him.”

Two things have helped Nicole cope since the murder of her husband. One is running her detective agency, and the other is her guardian angel Mira. When Mira is killed by a demon, Nicole accepts the help of a Ridge, a long haired, cigar smoking diamond in the rough with wings. Things go from bad to worse when a replacement guardian cannot be found. She has to trust Ridge, which is tricky when she realizes there are no demons or angels, just parasitic aliens that humans have built the myths of these celestial beings around. Ridge isn’t an angel or a devil, but an alien half breed known as a Midworlder. He is also way too sexy for his own good, or is it her own good.

Excerpt:

“Please don’t drop me, please don’t drop me,” Nicole repeated as she closed her eyes. She didn’t like flying in planes, let alone being dragged through the night sky by an oversexed scruffy angel who was too hot for his own good. Or was it her own good.

“I won’t let you fall. Look around before we go over. I reckon you’ve guessed the events of tonight aren’t the way we normally do things. Humans aren’t meant to be aware of our flying through the night sky which means I can’t let you remember any of this.”

She took a deep breath and opened her eyes. His face was close to hers as he gripped her tight around her waist. It was too dark to read what he might be thinking from his expression. His lips were so close and her own were parting at the thought he might kiss her. She trembled, but not from fear anymore and hoped he couldn’t read her mind. They were being hunted and she wanted a kiss, no she longed for it. He had to be putting the thoughts in her head.

She needed to get her mind off him so she gazed down at San Francisco. Her adopted city stretched out below with steep streets reaching down to the harbor, while the lights on the Golden Gate Bridge shone in the distance, reflecting on the water below. She smiled as a tear flowed down her cheek. She had never seen it this way before. For a moment she forgot others were after them or after her in particular. She peeked over Ridge’s shoulder and glanced back over his wings as they glided through the sky. Three dark, winged shapes were following and could be seen against the light of the full moon. Maybe the full moon could explain why strange things were happening, because this was like staring at a scene from a horror movie, except it was real.

The shapes of their pursuer’s bodies blurred. She turned back to the city but the lights of San Francisco were disappearing. In the moonlight she focused on the face next to her. Ridge smiled and touched her cheek with his.

“It’s okay. I’m gonna get you a new guardian and all of this will go away. I won’t let anyone hurt you.”

She didn’t want a new guardian, she wanted Mira back. It went dark and reminded her of when she went adventure-caving in Australia. The absolute darkness of underground where not even a trickle of light breaks through, no matter how hard you look. She couldn’t see Ridge anymore, but the closeness of him and the darkness amplified the sound of his wings. For a moment they were all that existed in the universe. His lips touched hers and her mouth opened to him only to have him pull away. Did he mean to do that?

“I suggest you close your eyes and give your mind over to me,” he whispered.

Nicole shook her head and tried to get herself back to reality, whatever that was. “I’m not going anywhere with my eyes shut after tonight, and from what I’m picking up at times your mind seems a bit murky to let you in again.”

“Suit yourself darling, but don’t blame me if you pass out.”

Pain sliced through her temple. She squeezed her eyes shut and instinctively hugged Ridge tighter. His thoughts were in her head again telling her to relax, but this time it wasn’t working. She tried to hold down the rising alarm of what would happen next. Somehow she had an inkling it wasn’t going to be good.

20141002 MaggieMundyUNKNOWN PROTECTOR_505x825

We have a treat for you today as the hero and heroine of Maggie Mundy’s new book, Unknown Protector, have agreed to stop by and answer some questions.

Hi! Thanks for being on Friday Features Blog Series with us and answering a few questions. First off, Maggie, would you please provide a little introduction for your hero and heroine so our readers will recognize their names in the answers?

Thanks, Maggie. So how did the two of you meet? Ladies first, Nicole.

He literally appeared in my apartment. I was being attacked by a Demonic Midworlder called Sayell. I didn’t know who the hell Ridge was but my guardian angel said he was here to help. I was glad he was there or I would have been toast.

Toast? That sounds serious. Ridge how did you know to help Nicole?

Nicole’s guardian called me. As Midworlder I am meant to protect humans. From the minute I touched Nicole sparks flew literally and I guessed this was going to be different.

Sparks flew when you touched her? SO, Ridge what attracted you to Nicole? More than sparks we hope.

She is sexy as all hell and from the minute we met I knew I wanted her in my life and in my bed.

Yes, we can see that she is, but Nicole what attracted you to Ridge?

Come on, he has a body to die for and his butt looks great in leather pants. He has beautiful blue eyes and a wicked smile. Oh, he saved my life so that endeared him to me as well.

Saved your life, blue eyes, wicked smile, and a great body. So it was love at first look for you, Nicole?

You’re kidding right. I thought he was a sex maniac with the way he was staring at my boobs. Then again I was eyeing him off as well.

Well, okay we can see each of your attributes quite well, ahem. Is anyone else getting warm in here? No? Moving on then. Ridge, how did you feel at this point?

I’ll be honest, I had a feeling she was going to be trouble. I mean she blows stuff up with her mind. Don’t tell her but it turns me on.

Oops Ridge, think the cat’s out of the bag now. So since there were sparks on the first touch, were there any fireworks in the first kiss? (At this point Nicole and Ridge looked at each other briefly before Nicole answered first.)

To be honest I think we were both hesitant.

Ridge, do you agree?

She’s right, I think we were both scared of where it was going to take us.

When did your first kiss take place?

Nicole: It was a few days after we met. Ridge’s second in command interrupted us otherwise I think it might have gone further.

Ridge: No might about it. If Sara had not come in I would not have been able to resist Nicole. Her lips, her body, I just can’t get enough.

Yes, Ridge we get the attraction. So what was your first date? What do you remember the most about it?

Nicole: We are trying to stay one step ahead of the bad guys and stay alive. It doesn’t make for romance that much. That said, Ridge did get a lovely private meal set up for us. We danced and kissed. Ridge is exceptionally good at both.

Ridge: Having her close to me when we danced sent my mind into overdrive. I think we both knew then we had stepped over the line and this was something more than just two people hitting it off.

A private meal, how romantic, where did this first meal take place?

Ridge: It was a quiet meal for two in one of the private rooms at the back of my club. It’s a nightclub in San Francisco called Heaven’s Gate.

Nicole: It was the first time we had really had a chance to talk. We both have a lot of baggage from our past.

So you got to know each other a little better. Ridge would you name three things you like about Nicole?

She is feisty in a fight and in the bedroom. She is unpredictable and that excites the hell out of me. I love her ass, hell I love her whole body, period.

Yep, we get that message clear. Nicole, how about the three things you like about Ridge.

Now I am going to blush. His body. His is sexy and has these fantastic wing tattoos that go down his back to his… okay I won’t go there. He is loyal and dependable and will protect those he loves even at a cost to himself.

Thanks Nicole, this is a PG13 sight. Ridge, name three things that irritate you about her.

She is stubborn, bossy and defiant, good to have in a fight though.

Okay, your turn, Nicole. Three things that irritate you about him.

He is stubborn too, so we lock horns sometimes. He is arrogant and wants to be the boss; he has learnt that doesn’t work with me. Those pesky cigars drive me up the wall. I’m working on him to give them up.

Now that you’re together where will you live?

Ridge: We live in the mountains in California at the moment. Don’t want to say exactly where. It’s more of a fortress than a home. I like to be prepared.

Nicole: I love our new home. I was used to living on my own but realize now we need protection. I suddenly have a huge extended family and I am loving it.

Are you going to start a family soon?

Ridge: We already have a beautiful little girl called Jessica. I would love to have more but can see I’m going to be a pretty protective dad.

Nicole: I would love to have more but it is a bit scary as we don’t know what the future holds for all of us.

Well this has been fun. Maggie thanks for bringing Nicole and Ridge by so we could get to know them a little better. Could you share a little from their story, Unknown Protector?

I would be happy to share an exciting excerpt from Unknown Protector.

Today we welcome

Maggie Mundy

Author of

Hidden Mortality

Donald said of this book that: Maggie Mundy has crafted a story about the heroine, Cara, on a woman’s journey to finding herself and the love of her life. Along the way she collects, as many do in life, an eclectic assortment of friends who help her through her various times of grief. Even with the stories Cara tells of witchcraft, dreams, and immortals, Cara’s friends stay true as Cara struggles with her heritage of being a witch. A witch being hunted by a killer who has stalked her family for centuries.

Excerpt:

Cara kept searching but couldn’t find the book she wanted. The assistant at the empty counter smiled politely as she approached.

“I’m looking for a book called Immortality and Witchcraft, Fact or Fiction,” Cara said.

The woman typed the title into her computer. As Cara waited, someone walked up to the other counter beside her. She turned to look. Her world stopped as she met the slate grey gaze of the man staring straight at her. This wasn’t possible. He couldn’t exist. He was just a dream lover. Yet there he was, standing next to her as big as life.

She tried to smile, but it probably came out as more of a grin. He didn’t smile back. Her legs turned to jelly. If she didn’t breathe, she would pass out. She reached out and gripped the counter. One of them had to look away but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. Someone was talking to her and the moment was broken.

“Excuse me.”
“Sorry.” Cara replied, as she forced herself to look at the salesperson. She was afraid if she glanced back, he would be gone. Her imagination must be playing tricks on her.

“It looks like we should have one copy left,” the woman said.

“I think I’m just about to sell it,” the other shop assistant said coming up to the register. “We could order it in for you. It might take a couple of weeks.”

“Please, take my copy.” The man at the other counter held out the book. His voice was deep, exactly as it was in her dreams. She was caught again in his gaze. The world disappeared and for a moment they were the only two people alive locked in the gaze they shared. Her hand went to her chest. She could feel her heart racing at the thought of him being near.

“Thank you, but no I couldn’t. You had the book first.”

“Please, take it. I have plenty of time to wait for another copy to come in.”

She found it hard to say no. Perhaps, it was the fact he was about six three and wore grey bike leathers. They added to the effect of making him look powerful. The shaved head and the stubble on his face gave a menacing look, but she wasn’t afraid of him. This wasn’t right. Her life was wild enough without dream lovers becoming real.

Plus, she wouldn’t want her other dreams to become real as well. She needed to say something, or he would think she was an idiot standing there with her mouth gaping. He held the book out to her. As she took it, her hand touched his. It was such a tiny touch and yet it meant he was real. She felt the heat rising up her neck as she blushed. She also sensed another heat inside her. It was the same way he had made her feel in her dreams.

“Thanks.” Cara paid for her book and listened as he confirmed his contact details. Seth Scanlon. She had a name. She wasn’t really stalking. Taking another book off a shelf, she flipped through the pages. He glanced her way before he left and caught her gaze once more.

She couldn’t fool herself. The look he gave her was so intense she felt he was seeing inside her soul. Her breath caught. She shivered although the shop was warm. For a split second, she considered following him and saying he must remember all the times they had made love.

She could just imagine the expression he would give her. He didn’t know her. She was a stranger. The shop became suffocating as she pulled at the collar of her jumper. She needed to be outside. There was no sign of him on the street. For a moment, she wanted to cry. At this rate, she would give the silly schoolgirls in the shop a run for their money.
